Between September 2 and September 19, "a bug in one of Microsoft's internal monitoring agents resulted in a malfunction in some of the agents when uploading log data to our internal logging platform," Microsoft wrote in the customer notification.

Ach komm, bisschen Monitoring, braucht eh keiner!1!!

Affected products included Microsoft Entra, an identity-management service. Microsoft Sentinel, a security-information and event-management product, was also affected, along with Microsoft Defender for Cloud and Microsoft Purview, a product for data-loss prevention.

Ja gut, außer bei Logins via Active Directory. Da braucht man Logdaten schon irgendwie. So ein bisschen. Und ohne Logdaten ist auch deren SIEM Sentinel wertlos, klar.

Und dass deren "data-loss prevention"-Tool von data loss betroffen war, ist die Kirsche auf der Schlagsahne an der Stelle.

Ja aber Fefe, das ist doch bloß ein Unfall. Das heißt doch noch nicht, dass die völlig inkompetent sind.

Nachdem ihnen die Logdaten verloren gegangen sind, anhand derer sie einen Angriff vielleicht hätten erkennen können, lügen sie dir ins Gesicht, dass es keinen Angriff gab. Glaubt ihr mir jetzt, dass das inkompetente Pfuscher sind, oder müssen die noch mehr kaputtmachen und dann rumlügen?

Ein Leser schrieb mir einen interessanten Gedankengang, den ich hier mal weitergeben will.

Er meint, "KI" wird ja traininert, um Erwartungen zu erfüllen. Nicht um Intelligenz auszubilden, sondern um Erwartungen zu erfüllen. Bei OpenAI sind das häufig irgendwelche Tests für Menschen, die die "KI" bestehen soll.

Der Leser fragt jetzt: Wenn die Erwartung von OpenAI ist, dass "KI" irgendwann intelligent wird und uns alle auslöscht, dann ist die "KI" kann aber nicht denken vielleicht gar nicht der relevante Punkt an der Stelle.

Wenn die "KI" von Leuten trainiert wird, den Erwartungen zu entsprechen, und deren Erwartung ist, dass die "KI" uns umbringen wird, braucht es vielleicht gar keine "intelligente" "KI", um uns alle umzubringen. Schon die Fake-"KI", zu der die Fähigkeiten der Sprallos bisher reicht, könnte uns alle umbringen, wenn das die Erwartungshaltung war.

Finde ich eine schöne Paradoxie, denn auf der anderen Seite will man ja instinktiv, dass Leute an "KI" arbeiten, die verstanden haben, dass davon eine Gefahr ausgeht.

PauseTalk Vol. 91 was held on Wednesday, August 28 at Garden Books, and it was a wonderful session. First off, it was the biggest group we’ve had so far in Shanghai – lucky 13 – which really tends to be the ideal size for this sort of thing (a dozen or so). Kicking off with the topic of abandoned spaces (and the desire to explore them), a lot of the following discussion revolved around what it means to live in a city that undergoes constant change, whether good or bad, and what we can or should do in terms of participating, exploring, and enjoying.

PauseTalk Vol. 92 took place on Thursday, October 10 at Bananafish New HQ, and we had another great mix of participants which made for a fun couple of hours of discussion, from the ups and downs of working on projects for western brands in China, to the art scene in Shanghai (and China in general), with other fun diversions in between – in fact, it was probably the funnest time I’ve had at a PauseTalk in Shanghai, with lots of laughs throughout (although yes, I’m sure the wine helped with that).
